Mumbai: Aditi Tatkare, Maharashtra’s Minister of Women and Child Development, announced that the distribution of the third phase installments under the Chief Minister Meri Ladli Behan Yojana commenced on Sunday. On the first day of the process, the Minister confirmed that ₹521 crore had been transferred to the accounts of 34,74,116 beneficiaries.
All eligible women will receive the funds by the end of the month
Considering the upcoming state assembly elections, the government had proposed disbursing both the third and fourth installments of the ‘Ladli Behan Yojana’ together. The goal was to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries across the state, including those in Mumbai, would receive the installments without delay. The third phase began distribution on Sunday, and Minister Tatkare mentioned that the remaining beneficiaries will receive their funds by the end of the month as efforts to transfer the money continue at a rapid pace.
Development projects affected as funds are prioritized for other schemes
Meanwhile, due to the significant expenditure involved in implementing the ‘Mukhyamantri Ladli Behan’ scheme, funding for other development initiatives, including several farmer support schemes, has been impacted. Amid criticism over delays in crop insurance payouts, the state government has decided to allocate ₹814 crore immediately to farmers. Sources suggest that during the cabinet meeting on Monday, 30th September, this amount will be transferred online to the farmers’ accounts.
Persistent demand from farmers
To maximize the benefits of the ‘Ladli Behan Yojana’ before the assembly election code of conduct comes into effect, the Maharashtra government has reduced funding to other departments. Farmers in the state have been persistently demanding payouts from last year’s fruit crop insurance scheme. In response to this, the government will distribute ₹814 crore to insured farmers next month, ensuring a more prosperous Diwali for the state’s farming community.
